Introducing Greenlit

Introducing Greenlit

Greenlit is a completely new crowdfunding platform - British, and exclusively dedicated to film. We are here to help filmmakers raise their budgets and build their audiences, within an inspiring environment. If you're not fully prepared, crowdfunding can be a hard process, so we will offer support at all stages.

Crowdfunding is not a new concept, but it's still only achieving a fraction of its potential for filmmakers. We took a good look at the crowdfunding landscape and saw nothing that really just worked. It's dominated by the American corporations who will treat you like a commodity, alongside the luggage and drones. There are investor platforms that have only led backers to creative and commercial duds. And nobody has provided the tools and support to help producers maximise their impact - from the beginning of the crowdfunding campaign, through production and post, and into distribution and sales. We want to fix all that.

So how are we different? First of all, we understand filmmaking. Been there, done it, got the crew t-shirt. Greenlit will be optimised to help you through the filmmaking process. We have partnerships with providers of kit and services across the board to give you  discounts and a sympathetic ear. We can advise on, and make introductions to, other sources of funding. Our regular events help Greenlit-funded projects get in front of industry, press and audiences to build a buzz. Finally we aim to offer a great community, of fellow filmmakers and enthusiasts, where you can receive and offer advice, as well as seek contributions in-kind, such as props or locations. Our platform is set up to offer campaigns for any stage of production - development, production, post and even for distribution and festival submission.

Secondly we aim to make crowdfunding easy. Well, as easy as possible - because it's going to be a lot of work if done properly. Our strategy is to give producers all you need in terms of training and tools to maximise impact, from the planning stage, through to launch and throughout the campaign. We will help with budgeting, social media and advertising strategy, press and PR management, and with the planning and promotion of rewards. We can also offer turnkey services for many of the most common rewards, such as T-shirts, posters or DVDs; we can facilitate discounts through our partners, and even do your fulfilment and mailing for you.

Finally, we recognise that the value of crowdfunding goes way, way beyond the initial cash to make your movie. A common complaint from first-time crowdfunders is that it's a lot of work, and there are probably easier ways to raise the money. This is undoubtedly true - but the endgame is not just about the dough. Your crowdfunding campaign is the place where you're going to find your most loyal fans, your tribe, your supporters. This is the first place where you can build a relationship with your core audience, who are potentially your biggest advocates. If you do this right, then those superfans will stay with you, through this filmmaking journey, and the next one, and throughout your career. It's about telling your story on the bigger canvas of community.

We are launching to the public in early March 2019. So if you'd like to be kept updated about developments at Greenlit, please drop your email address in the box at the top of this page. You can also follow our social channels using the links above. You might also be interested in signing up for our crowdfunding masterclasses in January and February.. We're also very interested to talk to filmmakers who might be at the right stage to work with us, so if you have a project, please let us know, and we'll be straight back in touch to discuss how we might help.
